Valentine’s Day Sibshop
The Arc of Spokane, in partnership with Spokane County, will be leading a group of self-advocates to Olympia, Wash. in early 2026 to participate in the 2027 Washington State legislative session.
The Arc is seeking a group of self-advocates from Spokane and surrounding communities who are interested in sharing their perspectives and helping elected officials better understand the experiences of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). During the trip, participants will attend The Arc of Washington’s Advocacy Day events, join a rally at the State Capitol, and meet with Washington State Senators and Representatives to discuss issues that matter to them and the IDD community.
This unique opportunity for a small group with IDD will include transportation, lodging for one night, and meal expenses. Participants will also take part in two pre-trip educational sessions and one post-trip follow-up session designed to build advocacy skills and help participants prepare for the experience.
Whether you are new to advocacy or already have experience speaking up for yourself and others, we encourage you to apply!

About Sibshops
Sibshops are high-energy workshops designed specifically for the brothers and sisters of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
Unlike traditional support groups, we focus on peer connection through recreation and play. At The Arc of Spokane, we provide a safe, consistent space where siblings can:
Make new friends in Spokane who share the unique experience of having a sibling with a disability.
Find a supportive place to share their story with people who understand.
Jump into high-energy games and creative projects designed specifically for siblings.
Enjoy snacks and crafts while hanging out and working on a hands-on project to take home.
By focusing on the whole family, we ensure siblings feel seen and supported as valued members of our community.
With two pre-trip educational prep sessions and one follow-up meeting, The Arc of Spokane’s Parent Coalition wants to help you learn how to become your best advocate to shape your own life, influence the systems that provide resources, and claim your place in our community.
Healthcare, education, transportation, and government services are often complex and intimidating. When people with lived experiences advocate for themselves, you help legislators better understand your needs and make decisions with you, instead of about you.
