LONG-TERM CARE OMBUDSMAN PROGRAM

The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program protects and promotes quality of life for people living in state-licensed facilities and residential housing (adult family homes, assisted living facilities, and nursing homes). Ombudsman advocate for the rights of people in facilities and provide a way to get complaints and concerns heard and resolved.

SafeinHome is a provider of remote supports, assistive and sensor technologies for people with disabilities to live independent and self-directed lives. SafeinHome remote supports provides off-site staff for people with disabilities with the help of an integrated system of sensors and assistive technology used in and out of the home.

UTILITY ASSISTANCE

CITY OF SPOKANE U-HELP PROGRAM

The City of Spokane's U-Help program provides low-income households with one-time emergency financial assistance to help pay for their City utility bills, which includes charges for water, wastewater, stormwater, and garbage collection. The Salvation Army is administering the funds. Bills must be 61 or more days past due.

New Hope Resource Center is a faith-based social service organization supported by local churches and community contributions. They serve basic human needs in North Spokane including the communities of Riverside, Elk, Chattaroy, Colbert, and Mead. They provide services such as gas vouchers, financial assistance for emergency vehicle repairs, housing/rental assistance, firewood, clothing, toiletry, loaning musical instruments to students, and chore services for seniors and people with disabilities, including basic home repairs, snow removal, respite care, transportation, and housework.

CLOTHING BANKS

MISSION COMMUNTY OUTREACH CENTER

Mission Community Outreach Center provides clothing, houseware, and hygiene items free of charge for low-income families and individuals. Customers can visit the clothing bank once every 60 days. Their Infant Bank provides diapers, wipes, and other infant supplies, and customers can receive items every 30 days. All services are provided free of charge. To visit the center, you must bring proof of address (a piece of mail) and ID for yourself and anyone in your family you are shopping for. Their hours of operation are Monday 1PM – 4PM, Wednesday 10AM – 1PM, and Thursday 1PM – 4PM. They are located at 1906 E. Mission Ave. Spokane, WA 99202 and can be reached by phone at 509-536-1084. GOD’S CLOSET

God’s Closet is a ministry that helps Seventh-day Adventist Churches engage with their communities. Each location collects new and gently used children’s clothes and shoes. They schedule Shop-day Events, when members of the community can “shop” for a small entrance fee of $1 per family. They offer clothes for newborns to teenagers. Disability parking placards allow you to park close to the entrance of medical and dental offices, hospitals, grocery stores, shopping centers, etc. if you have a qualifying medical condition. In order to get a placard, your medical provider needs to write a prescription.

SPECIAL MOBILITY SERVICES

Special Mobility Services (SMS) provides intercity transportation, linking rural communities in Eastern Washington with Spokane and offers community shuttle services to Davenport, Newport, Ritzville, Deer Park, Reardan, and Sprague. They have wheelchair accessible options. You must schedule your ride a minimum of 2 full business days in advance. SMS also offers Mobility Assessment and Training: a free program that helps people with disabilities by assisting them to become fixed-route bus riders. Mobility trainers have received specialized training on how to work with a variety of disabilities. The Trainer will design an individualized training plan, including one-on-one instruction while riding the bus with you.

INLAND NORTHWEST LIGHTHOUSE FOR THE BLIND 

Inland Northwest Lighthouse for the Blind believes each employee must be provided with whatever supports are necessary for success in the workplace. Services include in-house sign language interpreting department, staff mobility instructors to teach independent travel, 100 computer workstations, accessibility and braille literacy program, computer training program, deaf-blind program and interpreting services, orientation and mobility, and a supported employment program.

SNAP’S NEIGHBORS ON THE GO PROGRAM

SNAP’s Neighbors on the Go Program is designed to serve Spokane County residents 65 years of age or older and/or persons living with disabilities, who otherwise would not qualify or be able to utilize public transportation options. Riders can request rides for medical-related transportation needs such as attending an appointment with a primary care physician or picking up a prescription at their local pharmacy. Clients may qualify for non-volunteer wheelchair accessible options under other programs.

New Hope Resource Center serves individuals that are elderly or disabled for door-to-door transportation to medical appointments when no other assistance is available. You must reside north of Hawthorne Road (Riverside, Elk, Chattaroy, Colbert, and Mead, but not Deer Park).

COAST TRANSPORTATION

COAST Transportation provides wheelchair accessible transportation to medical appointments, shopping, and more. COAST transports elderly or disabled people from Rockford, Spangle, Latah, Fairfield, and other southern Spokane County areas to destinations within the STA service area with paid drivers and volunteers. CATHOLIC CHARITIES’ VOLUNTEER CHORE SERVICES PROGRAM

Catholic Charities’ Volunteer Chore Services Program provides door-to-door transportation to medical appointments and one grocery visit per month to seniors 62 years of age or older, and adults with disabilities. This service is for non-Medicaid individuals and income limits apply. The ability to serve is subject to volunteer availability. You must schedule your ride a minimum of 48 hours in advance.

VETERANS TRANSPORTATION SERVICES

Veterans Transportation Services provides wheelchair accessible door-to-door transportation to our veterans. They will provide services within a 40-mile service area from the VA Hospitals. Services are subject to availability. Veterans eligible for VA healthcare benefits or VA authorized appointments are eligible for services.

REGIONAL VETERANS SERVICE CENTER 

The Regional Veterans Service Center provides emergency assistance geared towards sustainable positive outcomes for eligible veterans – gas vouchers or bus passes for transportation to work, medical appointments, and education. The services provided are based on need and emergency. Income verification is needed. Veterans must have lived in Spokane County for at least 6 months and must have served 6 months or more and have had an honorable or general discharge.

AGING AND LONG-TERM CARE OF EASTERN WASHINGTON’S COMMUNITY LIVING CONNECTIONS PROGRAM

Aging and Long-Term Care of Eastern Washington’s (ALTCEW) Community Living Connections Program provides transportation services to older people who have no other means of transportation or cannot use existing transportation. ALTCEW prioritizes transportation to and from medical/health care services, social services, and meal programs. In special circumstances, transportation may be provided to senior centers, shopping, and/or recreational activities. Personal assistance for those with limited mobility is also provided. Transportation may be by van or volunteers using private cars, depending on the local service design and the person’s needs/abilities.

ANGEL FLIGHT WEST

Angel Flight West is a nonprofit, volunteer-driven organization that arranges free, non-emergency air transportation within the 12 Western states for children and adults with serious medical conditions and other compelling needs. Angel Flight West matches volunteer pilots to people in need, enabling them to receive medical treatment and other essential services that might otherwise be inaccessible because of financial, medical, or geographic circumstances.
