SPOKANE VOLUNTEER LAWYERS PROGRAM (VLP)

Spokane Volunteer Lawyers Program (VLP) is a legal assistance program of the Spokane County Bar Association. The VLP recruits volunteer attorneys to provide free legal advice in civil matters (non-criminal) and family law to low-income individuals in Spokane County and four outlying counties (Pend Oreille, Ferry, Stevens, and Lincoln). It is funded primarily by a grant from the Legal Foundation of Washington and contributions from local attorneys and annual fundraisers.

WASHINGTON LAW HELP

Washington Law Help is a guide to free civil legal services for low-income persons and seniors in Washington. This site provides legal education materials and tools that give you basic information on several legal problems, and in some cases, detailed instructions, as well as forms to help you represent yourself in court. You can also locate information on free legal aid programs in Washington, including basic eligibility and contact information.

NORTHWEST FAIR HOUSING ALLIANCE (NFHA)

COORDINATED LEGAL EDUCATION ADVICE AND REFERRAL (CLEAR)

Coordinated Legal Education Advice and Referral (CLEAR) is Washington’s publicly funded statewide legal aid program for low-income persons and groups in Washington. CLEAR and Northwest Justice Project provide Washington’s centralized intake, advice, and referral hotline.

TEAMCHILD

TeamChild is a nonprofit civil legal aid organization. It provides free legal representation and advice to youth generally between the ages 12-18 who come from low-income families and are involved in or at risk of being involved in the juvenile justice system. TeamChild has special education resources on their website and currently accepts referrals for youth living in King, Pierce, Snohomish, Spokane, and Yakima counties. Through the newly launched Youth Education Law Collaborative, TeamChild has brought on a special Statewide Education Rights Attorney who provides effective, coordinated response to education cases.

SELF HELP LEGAL NORTHWEST 

Self-Help Legal Northwest recognizes that some clients need full representation by counsel while others just need advice and support. Self-Help Legal Northwest is an attorney-directed self-help legal center. Their goal is to inform and empower clients representing themselves by providing quality, low-cost legal services. They offer legal advice, strategy and direction, and document preparation services. There is a flat $250 consultation fee for an Initial Client Consultation.

MODERATE MEANS PROGRAM

Moderate Means Program is a referral program that connects moderate income clients who might not qualify for free legal help but cannot afford to pay full price for legal services. The Moderate Means Program assists with family, housing, consumer, and unemployment law issues. GONZAGA UNIVERSITY’S LEGAL ASSISTANCE CLINIC

ROSE WEAR’S DISABILITY ASSISTANCE PROJECT 

Local private attorney Rose Wear’s Disability Assistance Project provides certain free services to people seeking disability benefits and to social service, medical, and other providers who with work with them. Wear offers the following free services to claimants: application status checks, online appeals, DSHS state disability benefit applications, legal consultation with an attorney, assistance with overpayments and continuing disability reviews, referrals to community service providers.

WASHINGTON STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE

The Washington State Attorney General’s (AG’s) Office offers an informal complaint resolution service to Washington State residents, and to consumers with complaints about businesses located in Washington State. Through this process, the office contacts businesses to determine their response to consumer complaints. If a business refuses to respond or to make an adjustment, the AG’s Office cannot compel them to do so. The AG’s Office informs consumers of alternatives if their complaint resolution service is not successful.
