The Lance Morehouse, Jr. Scholarship Fund was established in 2006 in honor of a Spokane man whose disability did not prevent him from enjoying a rich and meaningful life. The purpose of the fund is to help children and adults with developmental disabilities in Spokane County participate in inclusive activities in the community. An inclusive activity is one in which people with and without disabilities (other than care givers) participate together. A scholarship might help a person:
• Attend a summer camp
• Buy specialized equipment for recreational purposes
• Attend a sporting event
• Take a class
• Take music, dance or other lessons
Requests must specify an activity that 1) is time and date specific, 2) is social, educational or recreational in nature, and 3) includes people with and without disabilities. Unfortunately, we cannot consider annual membership fees or equipment that is primarily intended for therapeutic purposes.
How to Apply
To apply for a scholarship, complete an application and return it to The Arc of Spokane at the address listed below. Applications are available in a downloadable PDF(below), or you can call (509) 328-6326 to have one mailed to you. The application will ask what event the person wants to attend, why and how the person might benefit from participating. Individuals are limited to one scholarship per year, and the maximum amount of any one scholarship is $300.

The Approval Process
Applications are evaluated by the Inclusion Network steering committee, and scholarships awarded in accordance with the above guidelines. The process generally takes between 10 and 14 days from the time the application is received. Requests may be fully or partially funded.
Reporting
If you receive a scholarship, we ask that you take a moment to tell us how the recipient benefitted from participating in an inclusive activity in the community. If possible, please send photos so we can share them with others our website.
