The Lance Morehouse Jr. Fund

The Lance Morehouse Jr. Fund was established in 2006 in honor of a Spokane man whose developmental disability did not prevent him from living a rich and meaningful life.  After a near-drowning accident as a boy, Lance Jr.'s life changed dramatically.  Although limited physically and intellectually, Lance Jr. nevertheless enjoyed many new experiences, traveling with family and friends and participating in activities in the community.  Lance Jr.'s legacy is that people with developmental disabilities can enjoy the best that life has to offer when given the opportunity and appropriate support.  The Lance Morehouse Jr. Fund honors Lance Jr.'s memory by providing two types of grants:

Quality of Life
Quality of Life grants help people with developmental disabilities address their tangible and immediate needs.  Any item, project or activity that will improve an applicant's quality of life and that cannot be funded in other ways may be considered.  Applicants must be a person with a developmental disability or a parent or guardian supporting a child or legal dependent with a developmental disability.  The maximum award is $300 per year for an individual or family.  Applications are considered quarterly, but awards are contingent upon available funding.  Applications for consideration for the spring quarter are due by June 30, 2015.  Click the link to download a Quality of Life grant application LMJF Quality of Life Jan 2014.pdf.  To have an application mailed to you, call The Arc of Spokane at (509) 328-6326.

Social Inclusion
Social Inclusion grants help children and adults with developmental disabilities in Spokane County participate in inclusive activities in the community.  An inclusive activity is one in which people with and without disabilities (other than care givers) participate together.  A scholarship might help a person:
    •  Attend a summer camp
    •  Buy specialized equipment for recreational purposes
    •  Attend a sporting event
    •  Take a class
    •  Take music, dance or other lessons
Requests must specify an activity that 1) is time and date specific, 2) is social, educational or recreational in nature, and 3) includes people with and without disabilities.  Unfortunately, we cannot consider annual membership fees or equipment that is primarily intended for therapeutic purposes.  Individuals are limited to one scholarship per year, and the maximum amount of any one scholarship is $300.  Applications are considered on a quarterly basis.  Applications for consideration for the spring quarter are due by June 30, 2015Click the link to download a Social Inclusion grant application: LMJF Social Inclusion.pdf.  To have an application mailed to you, call The Arc of Spokane at (509) 328-6326.
