Having a developmental disability, or having a child with a developmental disablity, should never be a barrier to owning a home. The Arc's Home Ownership Opportunities program helps people navigate the complex process of buying a home by providing individualized counseling and downpayment assistance to qualified candidates. Since 2004 we've helped more than 85 people and families buy homes in Spokane. We help:
• Establish or repair credit to qualify for a mortgage
• Apply for financial assistance
• Locate a home that fits an individual's or family's needs
• Negotiate the purchase
• Educate new home owners about financial management and home maintenance
To qualify candidates must:
1) Have a documented developmental disability that is
• caused by a mental or physical condition occuring before age 22
• likely to continue indefinitely
• substantially limits three or more major life activities such as self-care, learning, mobility, etc.
2) Meet household income requirements established by funding and downpayment assistance programs
3) Buy a new or existing single-family home or condominium in or around Spokane
4) Complete our home buyer education classes
