The 2010 Arc Community Awards


Do you know a person or organization that deserves to be recognized for their support of people who have a developmental disability?  The Arc of Spokane would like to honor them at our Annual Meeting in March 2010.  Nominees need not have an affiliation with The Arc to be considered.  Please review the award descriptions below and nomiate a deserving person, group or organization!

Award Categories

Hazel Skog Award - A person who has devoted a lifetime to enhancing the lives of people with developmental disabilities.

Advocate of the Year - A person who has made a significant contribution toward bettering the lives of people who have a developmental disability.

Educator of the Year - An educator who has made praiseworthy efforts to ensure that students who have a developmental disability enjoy a positive experience in school.

Employer of the Year - An employer that has made praiseworthy efforts to hire and support a person who has a developmental disabilty.

Good Neighbor Award - A person or group outside the community of disability professionals who has been an example of acceptance and support for people who have a developmental disability.

Media Person of the Year - A newspaper, radio or television professional whose work has increased awareness and acceptance of people who have a developmental disability.

Organization of the Year - An organization outside the community of disability professionals which has set a notable example of acceptance and support for people who have a developmental disability.

Self-Advocate of the Year - A person with a developmental disability who has made a significant contribution toward bettering the lives of others who have a developmental disability OR who has made notable progress in their own life toward greater independence.
